I was very excited when I was assigned this piece. The stories were about the 25th anniversary of the release of the album “Thriller,” which Michael Jackson made before his skin became white. Finding a suitable photo of MJ under those conditions was a challenge, so I changed my approach. If I couldn’t show Mr. Jackson’s face, I would find something that represented him, and what better visual than MJ moonwalking in his black shoes and the ruffled white socks?
With this piece I had the chance to do a more creative jump page using examples of recent tributes to the dance from “Thriller.” I had some extra time left before deadline, so I created a pullout with different faces about the album. All in all I believe this package came together nicely, and allowed for a lot of creativity.
